Trump Safe Following Shooting at His Golf Course
The Palm
Beach County Sheriff’s Office reported a shooting occurred on the
grounds of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on Sunday
while former President Donald J. Trump was present. Despite the
incident, officials assured that Mr. Trump is safe, and the motive
behind the shooting remains unclear.
Steven Cheung,
communications director for the Trump campaign, stated, “President Trump
is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this
time.”
Teri Barbera, a spokeswoman for the Palm Beach County
Sheriff’s Office, confirmed the shooting took place while Mr. Trump was
at the course. A “person of interest” has been detained, though the
intent of the shooting is still unknown. A press conference is
anticipated later today.
The U.S. Secret Service is collaborating
with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the
incident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. The Secret Service
emphasized that the former president is secure and promised more
information will be released soon.
A White House official
informed that both the president and vice president have been briefed on
the security incident and expressed relief that Mr. Trump is safe.
Sheriff
William D. Snyder of Martin County announced that his deputies had
apprehended a vehicle’s driver, who was wanted in connection with the
shooting, as he traveled northbound on Interstate 95. The highway is
closed at Mile Marker 110, with federal investigators on the scene.
